It’s just another crazy day in K-Pop, no seriously, what a year! Whoever said K-POP is boring really had to shut their mouths this year (Gambling, desertions, lawsuits, pregnancy rumors, to name a few). Anyway, Hello Venus is done. By that I mean they’re losing Creepy Girl (Yoonjo) and the goddess Yoo Ara. Yeah. Good luck with that. Hello Venus was created as a joint project group by Tricell Media and has four members from Fantagio and two from Pledis. The agencies have decided to take back their respective artists, though Hello Venus is supposed to continue on with the four members under Fantagio. In other words, it was nice knowing you. Yoo Ara was the best member Hello Venus had and by that I mean the most marketable: she was in dramas to increase group exposure, she was an MC on music shows and she looks like the younger sister of Girls’ Generation’s Yuri. Oh, and she was also the group’s leader.
I liked Hello Venus because they tried to do cutesy in an era where sexy was in, sang a song about tea, and I really liked their live-performance styling (I have weird criteria). I’m hoping they put Ara in After School when they force Jung Ah to retire…I mean…when she naturally leaves through the graduation system after she feels she has contributed enough to the group’s legacy. Like an animal sacrifice. But yeah, I’m conflicted about this news. Hello Venus has a very small but devoted following so the fans must be crushed, but honestly, no one in the corporate side was really doing anything to help these girls and their careers. Their song quality was going down, waaay down, and they would take really long breaks in-between where most members did absolutely nothing. I feel bad for Lime, yeah, there’s someone called Lime in this group (she reminded me of Cosmo from the Fairly Odd Parents).
But the group might have a very, very small amount of hope if this time around they showcase Nara more.
My favorite Hello Venus MV is below. Let’s remember the happy times, shall we?
