AKB48‘s Rina Kawaei has finally returned to the stage after being attacked by a saw-wielding man at a handshake event four months ago. She performed with her fellow band members at the AKB48 Theater and looked happy and healthy after her surgery recovery period. The best part is that she got to perform Renai Kinshi Jourei, the song the group was forced to continue promoting under tighter security after her attack.
During the event she addressed the crowd and said, “I’ve made you all wait for four and a half months, but I’m returning to theater performance today and I’ve received so much support from you all. I feel that theater performance is the only place where I get to see my fans eye to eye and connect through eye contact. What makes me happy is to deliver my performance to you on the stage. I look forward to continue performing in the theater with all my heart and energy. Thank you very much for coming today.”
Look at how excited she looked! It’s horrible that she had to experience such a bloody attack, especially under such high media scrutiny. I was afraid that she would be traumatized after the incident, but she seems to be doing well. Hopefully, she is able to continue performing without feeling apprehensive about the intentions of fans at promotional events. Welcome back! The group’s company, AKS, better keep their improved security to prevent any future assaults. Sadly, you never know. More photos from her comeback event are below!
As for Anna Iriyama, the other AKB48 member that was injured during the attack, she already made a brief appearance on stage this past August. During AKB48’s 3-day Tokyo Dome concert, she went on stage with Team B and performed Arigatou. Although her injured right hand was bandaged, she appeared happy to be back performing as well. Her stage pictures can be found below too.
Let’s stay positive girls!
