Are these fangirl tears? I’m sorry. Let’s try to keep this professional…but I’m just so happy!
Avex Network released the short PV for BoA’s latest single Fly and it is a masterpiece of London architecture porn, fur coats and diamond earrings. Oh my god, someone pass me the wine because I need to celebrate the fact that princess BoA was finally given a descent video. I mean, let’s be real. Is the video a bit boring? Yes, but it’s a ballad so it’s justifiably slow-paced. The song is nice and the obligatory, tear-jerking filler in every album that I tend to ignore. Besides, BoA produced and wrote the lyrics to this song, so we must respect the fact that she’s taking greater creative control over her career. I mean, she’s under SM Entertainment. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Give her a raise, a medal, and 500 more stocks.
I didn’t even mind that annoying smudge filter, but only because it wasn’t overused a la Xiah’s Uncommitted. The cinematography is sophisticated, mature, and dreamy. The beauty shots are abundant yet subtle. The locations/sets were interesting and romantic. But let’s talk about the true amazing factor of this video, the on-point-Edna-approves fashion.
BoA looked ethereal and flawless in every single shot. Those scenes in front of the window with the off-shoulder coat – claps. Keep this stylist FOREVER. Is it the same person? Because if it is, he/she had a style epiphany! Goodbye potato chip beanie and hello leather-strap detail, felted wool hat! That’s it! I’m doing an Affordable Fashion post on her styling! You can find it here. I have to go replay this video like five more times.
Let’s hope this song does well in the charts…I’m terrified of checking the charts! I feel like BoA and Ayumi Hamasaki need to have a duet this year. Koda Kumi can rap in it and Namie Amuro isn’t allowed to release a song that week.
