Since I already ranked KPopBreak’s Top 10 Articles of 2014 based on view counts, I thought I would do one about my favorite posts of the year. These are MY Top 10 Articles of 2014, which I had the most fun writing or researching (fashion research wink), presented in NO PARTICULAR ORDER. Choosing only 10 was very difficult, I had to go through 48 pages of work, but I have done it! Ironically, this is the site’s 600th post! Holy crap, I’ve been busy! Like 571 articles here are mine. I’ve basically spent the whole year writing. And that’s just the count for this site. Thank you for over 140 thousand views and here’s to another great year of fashion and K-Pop! Also, special thanks to my guest authors: S, E.T., and CocoFashion correspondents Ann and Elizabeth. (Oh and Yinthe, who always comments!)
10. Favorite Pictorials of 2013 [Read here…]
In the beginning of 2014, I looked back at my favorite fashion photoshoots of 2013. My choices ranged from CL‘s Alexander-McQueen-centric pictorial in the abandoned Daelim Contemporary Art Museum to Hyomin‘s frozen princess photos for InStyle. Back when Jessica was still part of SNSD and spent her time cruising Paris with Suzy in matching flower designer gear, life was good. For my list, Sulli broke her sweetheart persona, Hara was carried by a bunch of shirtless male models, Hyun A was a candy-covered pinup girl, Yoon Eun Hye was three seconds from going on a killing spree, and Tiffany got fired for spreading flower petals on the ground.
I miss 2013…
9. EXO Drinking Game [Read here…]
Back when the Tree of Life was still protected by twelve (heart pains), I made a drinking game based off EXO‘s music videos and teasers. For instance, you took a shot when Luhan and Sehun were shipped (dying whale cries), Kris did his GTFO bitch face (smothers face into pillow), and Tao looked like he wanted to punch you in the face (…not much has changed in this department). Cheers!
8. Best Seoul Fashion Week 2015 S/S Collections [Read here…]
I had a lot of fun choosing my favorite S/S 2015 collections from Seoul Fashion Week. Lie Sangbong was all about butterflies, Miss Gee Collection brought back green, and Kye solidified its spot as the “effortlessly-cool” celebrity label. Can’t wait to see what the next SFW has in store!
7. Taemin To Have Solo Debut? / Let’s Plan It [Read here…]
Before SHINee’s Taemin debuted, I did an “article” (sure, let’s call it that) on what I wanted in his debut music video. I didn’t get the little birthday hat or the Jonghyun cameo. But, I got a birdcage veil and a Junghyun solo. Life is good.
6. Orange Caramel “Catallena” Food Style [Read here…]
Orange Caramel‘s Catallena music video was particularly captivating for it’s quirky food style. Following the theme, I told my readers where to buy a sushi bracelet, mushroom backpack, waffle ring, and fruit-sprinkled sunglasses, to name a few. These accessories are some of my favorite articles on the site because a lot of them look absolutely delicious and ready to eat. Keep them away from children, and hungry drunk adults.
5. History “Psycho” MV Review [Read here…]
One of the best music videos of 2014 was History‘s Psycho. Everything was amazing: the song, the dance, the fashion, the video, the PLOT. We got the American classic Psycho (1960) in K-Pop form and it was surprisingly refreshing rather than cringe-worthy. I got to write about a hair-pulling dance move and straight jackets—of course, this article is in this list! I hope History continue this dark theme in 2015, and finally gain some well-deserved recognition in the process.
4. Korea’s Next Top Model Cycle 5 Ep.3 [Video Recap] [Read here…]
My favorite episode of KNTM Cycle 5 was Episode 3. Why? Well, it was the episode that created my ship Eyebrows “Kai” Guy and D.O. It was also the episode where all the models got makeovers, the guys got waxed, and they all starred in Beenzino’s How Do I Look? music video. Best. Episode. Ever.
3. F(x) “Red Light” MV Review [Read here…]
f(x)‘s Red Light music video had me talking about The Matrix, 28 Days Later, V For Vendetta, Fahrenheit 451 and Nineteen Eighty-Four. Wait, what? That happened?! This was one good video. I enjoyed this review with its multiple references and various possible interpretations. I never even talked about A Clockwork Orange but that review is long enough as is! Kudos to f(x) for making music video reviewing everything but dull.
2. Jessica Jung Relaunches Line as BLANC & ECLARE *BRB Dying* [Read here…]
Would this list really be complete without designer Jessica Jung? No, no it wouldn’t. When Jessica re-launched her fashion line as Blanc & Eclare after being kicked-out of SNSD, I had a field day. Till this day, that official statement gets me:
“BLANC Group is proud to unveil ECLARE, the next step in the maturation of our brand. Derived from the Latin root Clara, ECLARE expresses clarity and brightness, virtues highly held by Founder and Head Designer, Jessica Jung. Her expanding vision and growth trajectory lead BLANC Group to renew and reinforce our commitment to presenting fresh, modern classic designs to the fashion industry. In that spirit, as we support Jessica in her rebirth, our brand will begin this next phase as BLANC & ECLARE.”
1. “KARA Project” Ep. 3 Recap [Read here…]
Oh my god. I used to recap KARA Project!! That horrible show that was supposed to choose a substitute fourth member for KARA. I got so attached to my Baby KARA girls. And Episode 3 holds a special place in my heart because it was the first episode that they did “well” and the judges didn’t tear them apart. They performed KARA’s Lupin and killed it. Ah, memories! So Min♥♥♥♥♥♥
