Former DSP Media trainee and member of Baby KARA Ahn Sojin has passed away.
After Sojin’s body was found in the garden of an apartment complex, a representative from the Daeduk police station stated, “We have concluded it to be suicide and we will be wrapping up the case. We did not find any traces of evidence that would suggest that it was something other than suicide. The family of the deceased are having a very difficult time, they want to send her off peacefully so there will not be any autopsy.” He continued, “A suicide note was not found so we would like to ask people to refrain from exaggerated reports as well as guess work.”
Ahn Sojin was a beautiful, talented singer and an inspirational leader. For those of us who watched the show KARA Project, she always stood out with her confidence and ability to show by example. She loved playing pranks on the members and always took criticism with a strong face, willing to improve and do whatever it took to get to her singing dreams.
Even though KARA Project was a “reality show,” it was obvious the other members truly cared about her and she cherished them. They were like sisters after training together for so long and I’m sure they’re having a very difficult time with this sudden passing. I hope that the other Baby KARA members, Sojin’s family and even the current KARA members (who met her as well) find strength in the good memories of Sojin and remember her as the positive, high-spirited person that she always radiated.
Sojin’s talent was immense and so was her dedication. She was a trainee for five years, went to college and had a job to support herself at the same time. She was a fighter and a great example of a human being. She was a fierce dancer, the girl who didn’t think twice about cutting her hair to make her choreography better, the front runner who would go into leader mode and huddle the girls into a circle to lift up their spirits after receiving a harsh wave of criticism, and the mom of the group that was more than willing to share her wisdom and talent.
You left too soon and you won’t be forgotten.
For those of you who are reading this and are having a hard time in your own life, please know that no matter how harsh life can be at times, it is still a beautiful thing. If you’re having suicidal thoughts, don’t be afraid to reach out to someone. There are suicide hotlines available 24/7 and people who are willing to listen to what you have to say. You matter. Every life matters. Even if it feels as though your dreams are out of reach, every failure is an experience, a building block, and an opportunity.
South Korea has the highest suicide rate among OECD countries, at 25/100,000. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed to prevent further tragedies like this.
Now let’s remember Sojin at her best, performing and loving every minute of it. She shined on every stage, please rest in peace.
Sojin showed her amazing ability to lead in a group during Baby KARA’s performance of “Lupin” in Lotte World. She was chosen as the best performer by the vocal trainer after the show ended. She never stopped smiling and showed great charisma on stage. Even though she’d only cut her hair the day before, it looked like she’d own that hairstyle for years!
During KARA Project’s final showcase, Sojin sang Christina Aguilera’s “Ain’t No Other Man.” During the performance, she showed her impressive vocal power and charming stage presence. I remember all of the fanboys in the arena swooning…
An indisputable fact of life is that Sojin was a skillful dancer. When she moved, you couldn’t’ take your eyes away from her. She was always playful and never calculative.
Finally, a fan made a very nice short video of Sojin from clips of the show. She always smiled so brightly, and I hope that wherever she is now, she still is…
